New media, new mother?

It used to be that when you had trouble deciding on something, needed someone's opinion or even approval, you asked your mom. Mother knows best, as they say. So why is it, with the inception of new media, ie facebook, we have turned to our so-called "friends" or "followers" as a trusted source when deciding on our personal matters? Big Daddy wanted to buy a new truck. Instead of discussing the matter with family members or close personal friends, he decides to post everything on his facebook account, from the initial meeting, the proposed cost of the truck, the nuts and bolts of the deal and then finally the decision. This process took about a week, and throughout the entire decision making, his friends and followers listed their opinions, thoughts and comments. Huh. When did it happen that we all woke up one morning and thought I'm going to share every detail of my personal life with the world and trust their advice, opinions and in fact, rely on their information? I guess, in a way, this is what I'm doing with this blog. A way to express my own feelings and opinions on certain matters, and welcome if not expect some type of feedback and response. New media, new world, that's for sure.
